About

Hello!

Thanks for coming to find out about my little illustration shop.

A long, long time ago I needed a business name. Where could I get a name that was a little bit quirky… befitting of a Graphic Designer Illustrator?

As I looked out of the window of my cube shaped living room, in my cube shaped house, on the corner of my street, it came to me.

15 years later, Cornercube has evolved, though essentially remained the same. I’m still just as passionate about design, I love to create, and I love to produce art that my clients rave about.

I’m a Graphic Designer by trade, but I’m an artist by heart, and luckily the two go hand in hand. When a client asks me to produce a leaflet, logo or flyer, it’s because they know there will be creative flair as well as functional and expressive design.

Because of my Graphic Design background, I’ve always been as comfortable in front of a screen as I am when painting with acrylics or sketching with charcoal. So when the evolution of technology gave me the tools to create a piece of art in a streamlined manner, where changing a colour could be done in a matter of seconds, when hours of brush cleaning would be cancelled out, but the process would call upon my skill in brushwork, my knowledge of colour mixing, and most importantly be a process that I find rewarding, challenging and creative, how could I ignore it?

But is it art?

Well obviously I believe whole heartedly that it is. When I put pen to screen every stroke is my own, the pressure and angle I use is mine. On pen tilt the stroke becomes thicker, when I press harder the tint is darker. It can go wrong, sometimes I have to screw up the paper and start again (Ok not literally), it’s imperfect, it can be messy, it’s fun and therapeutic! I pour my heart and soul into each piece, it’s taken a lot of trial and error to perfect the process, but most important of all it looks fabulous framed and on a wall, and can be a piece of art that means something important to you year after year, and without the price tag that comes with owning an ‘original’.

If you’re still with me, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

PS I do paint originals, but they take many months and I couldn’t possibly sell them ;-)

In case you're interested here's a photo of my family below, I'm the one in the dress.
